Overview
ChatGPT is transforming the way people find information online. Back in 1998 when Google stepped into our lives, little did we know that if not most of the times but at least once in a day we would say “Google it”. The way ChatGPT has become talk of the town, the days are not so far when we will say, “GPT it”.
ChatGPT with its natural language processing, and personalized results, has the potential to become the new Google. But is ChatGPT all it's cracked up to be, or is it just another search engine? All of us who have used ChatGPT and those who are still in the que of becoming a user are coming up with different analysis about what this friendly chatbot could or couldn’t be.
This article is going to be interesting for those who have an affiliation with our dear Google. We will explore the features and benefits of ChatGPT and how they compare to Google's offerings. We'll look at how ChatGPT can help you find the answers you need, faster and more accurately. We'll also discuss whether ChatGPT is the right choice for your business or organization. Last but not the least, we will see how Google is reacting to ChatGPT so far. By the end of this analysis, you will have a better understanding of why ChatGPT could or couldn’t be the new Google.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT stands for “generative pre-trained transformer.” It is an online tool where you make an account using your email address. It has a chat window where you can ask anything from the AI responder. Its main function is to help you find the information you’re looking for as quickly as possible. It can be used as a standalone search engine or as a supplement to a primary search engine like Google but in its primitive nature it is not a search engine but an AI tool. Many people think ChatGPT can only take their written commands but it can actually listen to you. You can add an extension to your browser and start speaking with it.
The advantage of ChatGPT is that you can find the information you’re looking for without having to go through the tedious process of typing keywords into a search bar and clicking on “Search.” Using ChatGPT is like conversating with a friend with a solution for literally anything. It can be used by individuals, businesses, and organizations. It can also be used in a variety of settings, such as classrooms and libraries. This is all about the basics of ChatGPT, let’s move forward to the features in detail.
How does ChatGPT knows everything?
The concept of ChatGPT is not new yet it is bigger than you can imagine. Previously chatbots like Siri, Alexa, and Olivia etc. were used and trained with programming and reinforcement but they were available to specific device users unlike ChatGPT that is available to anyone. Now the question is how do they even answer our queries? These engines are trained with programming and reinforcement through which they copy idioms from our written and spoken instructions.
OpenAI has announced the language model for ChatGPT that was created using RLHF (Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback). In this model the conversations of the human AI trainers are given to the language model. The AI trainers conversate by playing the role plays of both the user and the AI. The language model then uses these profound conversations on all and every topics along with the history of queries from humans to create its memory through which it answers us correctly.
What is an AI Trainer?
To make it comprehensive, you must know what is an AI trainer? In simple words, trainers(humans) teach AI artificial intelligence on how to understand the user input and take decisions based on the user enquiry. Now how do the trainers teach a robotic entity with all of these humanistic traits? The AI trainers using the heavy and large pools of unstructured quality data in sets occupy the AI and this data enables the AI to connect the dots upon receiving an enquiry. Since the data sets are accurately put, the processed information or the connected dots by AI produces results near to accuracy based on the data available. The more sets of data available, the more chances of accurate results.
This is why it can understand your queries even if you misspell words or use incorrect grammar. ChatGPT can process large amounts of data at high speeds, making it ideal for answering “time-sensitive” questions. ChatGPT is capable of “understanding” your needs and interests, which allows it to provide more personalized results than a traditional search engine would and it does it based on the huge sets of data it has eaten by its trainers. With ChatGPT, you can ask a question and receive an answer almost instantly. There’s no need to wait for a web page to load or for someone to conduct a manual search and write a report.
Benefits of ChatGPT
Compared to a traditional search engine, ChatGPT is much more accurate and generates more relevant results. It does this by understanding your intent behind each query and it analyzes your intent with the help of the selection of vocabulary you choose to provide it in your query. It also analyzes your past search history to determine which terms you’re more likely to use in the future.
This allows it to “learn” your preferences over time and deliver more accurate and relevant results. The AI trainers have trained it in a way that it is open to learning from your search queries as well as utilizing its previous teachings. ChatGPT is accessible to people who are physically or cognitively challenged. Individuals who have visual or mobility impairments can use ChatGPT to get their information instantly, without having to type anything.
How ChatGPT compares to Google
Both ChatGPT and Google use natural language processing to understand written and spoken language. However, Google’s natural language processing algorithm isn’t as advanced as ChatGPT’s. Google uses an algorithm to conduct searches, whereas ChatGPT employs artificial intelligence to conduct searches. Google is that ancestor who has records of everything and everyone as uploaded by them.
Google the Grandpa
Recall your grandpa answering you the name of the great grandfather of your father and telling you the real stories of world war 1 accurately. He knows all of it because he lived them or heard them and now this information is a part of your memory. Likewise, Google knows the name of the first ever scientific experiment that was conducted back in 430 BC because a researcher uploaded a research on Google in 2002 the way your grandpa instilled information in your memory.
ChatGPT the Sherlock Holmes
Now when it comes to ChatGPT, it won’t be wrong to say it is the Sherlock Holmes of all. A character with the ability to observe, analyze, solve, predict and produce satisfying and problem solving results. Google’s algorithm is capable of personalizing results, but not to the extent that ChatGPT can. Both provide access to information instantly, with the exception that Google will load a web page containing information and ChatGPT will read your mind (your preferences of vocabulary).
Are there any downsides to ChatGPT?
As with most technological advancements, there are a few downsides to ChatGPT. For example, it can be frustrating when you can’t get the information you need. You may have to try different ways of communicating your needs.
You may also have to get used to the idiosyncrasies of the AI that powers ChatGPT. This means that it may not always be able to understand you if you are not giving it words near to the questions in your head. You may have to speak more clearly and use more descriptive language when speaking to it.
Finally, ChatGPT isn’t a replacement for traditional search engines like Google. Instead, it is meant to complement them. It can be used as an extension in the browsers. You can use it to find quick and easy answers to your questions so that you don’t have to go through the painstaking process of typing keywords into a search bar.
Google a manual search engine vs ChatGPT an AI search engine
There’s a huge difference between a manual search engine and an AI search engine. Although there is still a debate on whether calling ChatGPT a search engine is right or wrong. A manual search engine relies on people to manually gather and organize data and information. On the other hand, an AI search engine relies on computers and algorithms and the pre-trained and installed data to produce results.
Apprentice Bard and Googles stance on ChatGPT
Google is giving hints on integrating chat pages and testing different ChatGPTs. As per CNBC a chatbot named as “Apprentice Bard” is being tested by Google. This new chatbot is to be launched by Google and is in the process of testing. As per the reports, this chatbot has similar features as of ChatGPT where users can ask questions and get instant accurate answers. Since Google is a gigantic platform and is concerned about the level of accuracy in the results of chatbot, it might take a few weeks to launch. ChatGPT by OpenAI uses RLHF (Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback) whereas the Google’s Apprentice Bard used LaMDA (Language model for Dialogue applications) a Google’s conversation technology.
How can AI innovations affect digital marketing?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovations can have a significant impact on digital marketing in several ways:
- Personalization: AI can help analyze consumer behavior and personalize marketing messages and content based on individual preferences.
- Customer service: AI-powered chatbots can offer quick and efficient customer service, reducing response time and improving customer satisfaction.
- Predictive analytics: AI algorithms can analyze large amounts of data to predict consumer behavior and preferences, allowing marketers to make informed decisions.
- Campaign optimization: AI can help optimize ad targeting, bidding, and placement in real-time, leading to more effective marketing campaigns.
- Content creation: AI can assist in content creation by generating creative ideas, suggesting headlines, and even writing articles.
Overall, AI is transforming digital marketing by automating repetitive tasks, providing valuable insights, and enabling marketers to create more personalized and effective campaigns.
Conclusion
ChatGPT is a powerful invention in the new era of technology that has make big names as bigger as Google and Microsoft freak out. Although the venture is simple and helpful but it has the potential to make unimaginable shift the in the future of all sorts of industries. It has great benefits but many people are worried that the increasing amount of AI fever can cause unemployment and the time is not so far when AI will replace humans.
Although there is also another perspective that no matter how efficient AI can become, it will still require humans to run it for example, the ChatGPT will not produce an answer until you ask for it. The better you question, the better answer it will provide. So, there are more chances of augmented reality taking place in the future rather than a one sided game of AI only. Whatever happens in the future, the chances are that “GPT it” might replace “Google it” if not for everyone but for Gen Z.
